About this Lecture:
Dr. Samuel Adler is one of the greatest living composers and conductors of our time. In this lecture, Dr. Adler will present the final part of a four-part lecture series, “95 Years of Music to Speak to Our Time”, sharing his amazing life experiences and brilliant musicianship in the Premiere Season of the NEW Arts & Entertainment Lecture Series. At age ten Samuel Adler narrowly escaped Nazi Germany during Kristallnacht, the “night of broken glass.” At age ninety-five, he continues to compose and speak, sharing his prolific musical gifts.
Dr. Samuel Adler is one of the greatest living composers and conductors of our time. About Dr. Samuel Adler
A legendary risk-taker with over 400 published works, Dr. Samuel Adler taught for sixty-three years at Juilliard, and Eastman, and has given masterclasses and workshops at over 300 universities world-wide. Having studied with Aaron Copland, Paul Hindemith, Randall Thompson, and more, he knows just about everyone on the twentieth-century American music scene. His recent album, “To Speak to Our Time: Choral Works by Samuel Adler”, sung by world-renowned Gloriae Dei Cantores won The American Prize, and he has received numerous awards including ASCAP’s “Aaron Copland Lifetime Achievement Award.” He believes that one should compose in the “energy of his time” and he is without doubt one of the greatest living composers and conductors.
